Spartanburg, SC -- The Piedmont College cross country teams competed this morning in the 27th Annual Eye Opener held by USC Upstate with both teams placing ahead of local rival Toccoa Falls College. The competition was the first of the 2010 season as the men's squad placed 18th out of 21 while the women's team finished 21st out of 22.
Newcomer
AJ Meyer paced the men's squad turning in an 8K time of 28:06 while
Wesley Milton followed at 30:04. Crossing the tape at 31:03 was sophomore
Aaron Saylor with
Chez Maxwell and
Matt Collins coming in less than 20 seconds later.
On the women's side, freshman
Molly Atkinson led the way finishing the 5K run at 25:02 with sophomore
Michelle Sosia finishing up just 40 seconds later. Crossing the line at 27:08 and 27:35 respectively was veteran
Anna McClatchy and newcomer
Emilie Garner.
Both squads will return to the course on September 11 as they make the short journey to participate in the Berry College Invitational.
