Gainesville, GA -- The Piedmont College women's soccer team defeated Tennessee Temple University this afternoon by a score of 8-0 as the Lady Lions opened the 2010 season.  PC held a 2-0 advantage at the break before exploding with six second half goals from four different players to cruise past the Crusaders.

In first half action, it was freshman forward Laura Goodwin who made the early impression tallying two goals in a seven minute stretch to give PC a 2-0 lead.  The first came on a through ball from fellow newcomer Dilyn MacLean while the second was courtesy of a cross from sophomore Macie Rooke.  Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Induni held TTU scoreless in the half saving the only two shots that the Crusaders mustered in the entire contest.

After the break, senior forward Katie Porter started out hot notching three goals in an eight minute span to tie former Lady Lion Julie Costello's career goal record of 80 in the early 1990s.  Goodwin followed Porter's spark scoring off another MacLean in the 68th minute while the sophomore midfielder got a goal of her own just a minute later.

Kaitlyn Induni rounded out the scoring in the 85th minute tallying her second career goal.  Between the posts, Induni and freshman keeper Marjorie Hammond combined to seal the shutout for the Lady Lions. As a team, PC outshot Tennessee Temple 25 to two while also holding the advantage in corners with six to the Crusaders' one.

Piedmont, now 1-0 overall, will travel to Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA for a Tuesday, September 7 matchup with kickoff set for 4:00.
