Rocky Mount, NC -- The Piedmont College women's soccer team handled USA-South foe North Carolina Wesleyan College 2-0 on the road earlier this afternoon. After taking a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute of play, the Lady Lions would not look back adding a second half goal to secure their fourth win of the season.
In the first period, senior forward
Katie Porter broke a scoreless tie by putting away a
Laura Goodwin cross to give the 1-0 advantage to the visitng squad. Junior
Justine Clay then connected on a 35 yard screamer with 18 minutes to play in the second half to secure the 2-0 win for the Lady Lions.
For the match, PC outshot the host Battling Bishops 24 to eight while also holding the advantage in corner kicks with seven to NC Wesleyan's two. Senior goalkeeper
Kaitlyn Induni got the win in goal making a trio of saves to preserve her second shutout of the season.
With the victory, Piedmont moves to 4-2 overall. The squad will get back on the field on Sunday, September 19 when they take on Methodist University in an afternoon match-up with kickoff set for 4:00.
