Ferrum, VA -- The Piedmont College softball team split a doubleheader at Ferrum College on Monday afternoon to end a four-game weekend road trip. The Lady Lions took the first game 5-1, but they were unable to complete the sweep dropping another extra-inning decision 2-0 in eight.
In game one of the doubleheader, PC earned a 1-0 lead in the top of the third as junior
Raley White collected an RBI. Piedmont then tacked on four insurance runs including a solo shot from White in the top of the seventh as seven different Lady Lions came up to bat. Left fielder
Taylor Morgan also contributed posting two RBIs.
#B.J. Cofer# went the distance allowing the lone run of the game in the bottom of the seventh and striking out six.
In the second game, the score would stay tied at zero through seven innings leading to the second extra-inning affair in as many days for the Lady Lions. Ferrum eventually broke the deadlock with a walk-off two run homer in the bottom of the eighth.
Freshman
Megan Kesler pitched took the tough loss as she tossed seven scoreless innings before finally allowing the walk-off shot. Sophomore
Emily Cheek led the Lady Lions offensively collecting two base hits in three plate appearances.
The split puts Piedmont at 3-3 overall including a 2-2 mark from the weekend. The Lady Lions will resume play when they travel to Tigerville, SC to take on North Greenville University with the doubleheader set to start at 2:00.
