Scots Drop Lions In Team's Bid For Regular-Season Championship

Michael Rubio scored a team-high 13 points in the Lions' 96-62 loss at Maryville College this afternoon in the team's regular-season finale.

The Piedmont College men's basketball team had its bid for the Great South Athletic Conference regular-season title broken as the team was defeated 96-62 by host Maryville College in both team's regular-season finale.  Piedmont wraps up the regular season with a 15-10 overall mark and 3-3 league record after splitting the season series with the Scots.

The hosts grabbed their first and final lead of the game just over four minutes into the contest and never looked back.  Maryville led 16-9 with 11:00 remaining in the half before exploding on a 33-10 run to close the half and lead 49-19 at intermission. 

The hosts were never threatened in the second half en route to clinching the GSAC regular-season title and top-seed in next week's conference tournament. 

Michael Rubio led three Lions in double-figures with a team-best 13 points while Tyler Arnold and #J.C. Herebia# added 12 points apiece.  The Lions were plagued by a season-high 25 turnovers. 

Piedmont, who has now dropped three consecutive games, will enter the GSAC Tournament as the second seed and will face third-seeded LaGrange College at 7:30 PM on Friday, February 26th at 7:30 at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA.
