Box Score

Demorest, GA --
The Piedmont College women's soccer team put up a pair of scores to defeat Great South Athletic Conference member Spelman College 2-0 earlier this evening at the Walker Athletic Complex.  With the quarterfinal win, the Lady Lions clinched an appearance in the final four of the GSAC championship tournament this Friday, November 5.

Defensive pressure was the name of the game for PC tonight as they held Spelman to just two shots on goal in the entire match.  It was sophomore Dilyn MacLean who put Piedmont on the board first as she finished a perfectly weighted through ball from Cydney Goodwin in the waining seconds of the first half.

Leading 1-0 at the half, Piedmont would continue to withstand the attack from the Jaguars of Spelman College while creating more scoring chances for themselves.  The one goal advantage would stay the same until the final minute of play when Laura Goodwin calmly finished a Justine Clay pass to earn the second goal of the night for the Lady Lions.

Piedmont would then clamp down defensively to ensure the 2-0 home victory in the GSAC quarterfinal match.  Senior keeper Kaitlyn Induni saved a pair of shots on goal to preserve her eighth shutout of 2010 while lowering her goals against average to 0.65 on the season.

The GSAC quarterfinal win for the Lady Lions moves the squad to 12-6 overall and moves Piedmont into a semifinal showdown with the #2 seeded Spirits of Salem College.  A rematch of a 1-0 thriller that saw Salem come out on top, kickoff is set for 6:45 on Friday, November 5.
