Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College women's soccer team fell to in-state foe Covenant College earlier this afternoon by a 2-0 shutout score at the Walker Athletic Complex. Despite putting a valiant effort up in the second half of action, the Lady Lions could not overcome a 2-0 deficit as the squad dropped to 9-6 on the year.
In the opening frame, the Scots of Covenant were in control scoring first in the 16th minute before adding another goal just six minutes before halftime. Despite having only managed two shots on frame in the first half, Covenant had converted both to take a 2-0 lead after the first 45 minutes of play.
Following the break, it was a different story all together with Piedmont once again outshooting their oppoent putting six shots on target compared to just one for the Scots. However, the added pressure would come too late as Covenant held off the attack to take a 2-0 victory.
Sophomore
Macie Rooke led the squad with a trio of shots on goal while six other Lady Lions added a shot a piece. For the match, Piedmont ousthot the visitors nine to three forcing the Covenant keeper to make nine saves to keep a clean sheet.
The loss drops PC to 9-6 overall on the season. The Lady Lions will look to rebound on Tuesday, October 26 when they host Great South Athletic Conference member LaGrange College for a 5:30 kickoff. The night will also serve as Senior Night for the graduating Lady Lion class of 2011.
