Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College women's soccer collected their second Great South Athletic Conference win in as many tries by virtue of a 3-0 shutout of Huntingdon College. The Lady Lions did not allow a shot on goal to the visiting squad while tallying 12 of their own to overrun the Lady Hawks.
In the first half, Piedmont jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal from
Dilyn MacLean in the 33rd minute. Getting credit for the assist on the MacLean goal was freshman
Laura Goodwin, her 8th assist of the season.
The Lady Lions continued to pepper the Lady Hawks' goalkeeper with shots on goal putting up eight in the second frame. However, the score remained 1-0 in favor of Piedmont until forward
Laura Goodwin broke through in the 85th minute scoring her eight goal of 2010 off a pass from classmate
Hayleah Waters.
Goodwin would add another score just two minutes later with another freshman,
Meghan Heim, grabbing the assist. The 3-0 advantage would hold up as the final score with Piedmont walking away with the win.
The victory moves PC to 7-3 on the season including a perfect 2-0 mark in GSAC play. The Lady Lions return to action on Saturday, October 9 when the team hosts another conference member Salem College for a 7:00 showdown.
