Box Score

Demorest, GA --
The Piedmont College men's soccer team earned their eighth win of the season with a 2-1 win over fellow conference member Huntingdon College earlier this afternoon at the Walker Athletic Complex.  The win also marks the first Great South Athletic Conference victory for the Lions in their league opener.

It was the home team who struck first in the contest on yet another goal from junior Nick Weatherby who found the back of the net in just the second minute of play to give the home team an early 1-0 advantage.  For Weatherby, last week's GSAC Player of the Week, the goal marks his team-leading ninth of 2010.

Freshman Miles Flynn then added to Piedmont's lead with his second goal of the season in the 19th minute.  Weatherby was again involved in the attack earning the assist on the goal from Flynn that put PC in front 2-0.

Huntingdon would manage to find hope with a goal in the 54th minute of play cutting the Lions' lead in half with most of the second period remaining.  However, the squad was denied the equalizer by the home team defense led by Brian Reulbach who helped preserve the 2-1 victory for the Lions.

With the win, Piedmont moves to 8-4 on the season while opening up GSAC play 1-0.  The Lions will next get on the pitch when the team travels to in-state rival LaGrange College for a 7:00 battle on Wednesday, October 6.
