Upset Bid Falls Just Shy For Lady Lions At Maryville As PC Falls 1-0

The Lady Lions soccer team allowed a single score this afternoon on the road to host Maryville College as the Scots handed PC its third 1-0 defeat and the team's second GSAC loss of the season.

Maryville, TN -- The Piedmont College women's soccer team fell on the road to defending Great South Athletic Conference champion Maryville College by a 1-0 score earlier this afternoon.  The loss represents only the second regular season conference loss for the Lady Lions in 2010 and just the third over the last two seasons.

It was an early goal chalked up in the eighth minute of play that helped the host Scots take a 1-0 lead through halftime.  Maryville would then withstand the attack of PC in the second half clearing out several late attacks including a dangerous cross in the final minute to take the one-goal decision.

The loss drops the Lady Lions to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in GSAC play.  Piedmont will look to bounce back and avoid their first two-game losing skid since 2008 when the squad travels to local rival Toccoa Falls College on Wednesday, October 20 for a 7:00 match.
