Atlanta, GA -- The Piedmont College women's soccer team picked up its first Great South Athletic Conference victory of the season this evening at Spelman College by the score of 2-0. The Lady Lions took the advantage early and used an iron-clad defense to shut down the homestanding Jaguars.

At the 12:00 minute mark junior Katie Porter was fouled inside the goal box and converted the penalty shot for the eventual game-winner. The 1-0 advantage held for the next 73 minutes until goalkeeper Kaitlyn Induni blasted a punt over the defense and Porter beat two defenders including the goalie for the insurance goal.

The defensive effort was anchored by Casey Lovelady and Nicole Hood who held the Jaguars to a mere five shots on goal and Induni who posted her third shutout of the season. The women were able to hold the edge in corner kicks 5-1 and posted nine shots on goal.

PC, now 5-0 overall, will return to action again on Saturday, September 19th as they travel to Great South Athletic Conference member Maryville College in Maryville, TN for a non-conference matchup beginning at 4:00.
