Macon, GA -- In the first road contest of the 2009 season the Piedmont College women's soccer team traveled to Wesleyan College this evening and picked up the 10-0 victory. The non-conference shutout is the second consecutive for the Lady Lions who held the home team to zero shots on goal for the match.
Just three minutes into the action freshman
Macie Rooke connected on her first collegiate and eventual game-winning goal off a pass from
Justine Clay. The Lady Lions tacked on an additional eight goals before the half as six different players found the back of the net.
Katie Porter paced the offensive explosion with a pair of goals and assists respectively while
Caitlin Hurd added two goals. Also contributing were Clay and senior
Erin Pippin who notched a goal and an assist apiece.
For the match the women struck 28 shots on goal and seven corner kicks compared to the home teams zero. Despite playing against Great South Athletic Conference member Wesleyan College, tonight's match did not count towards the conference standings due to the unbalanced schedule.
The Lady Lions, now 3-0 overall, will return to the pitch on Saturday, September 12th in a non-conference matchup with GSAC member Huntingdon College at Walker Field beginning at 1:00.
