Macon, GA -- The Piedmont College women's basketball team picked up its first victory of the 2009-10 season this evening at Great South Athletic Conference host Wesleyan College by the score of 88-48. The high-powered offensive attack hit 43% of it's shots from the floor including 29 points off turnovers.
The victory moves the Lady Lions to 1-4 overall and 1-0 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The women will return to the hardwood again on Saturday, December 5th as they travel to GSAC host Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC starting at 2:00.
With a slim 9-5 lead just five minutes in the Lady Lions exploded with a 19-3 run over the next 10 minutes that included 11 Pioneer turnovers. When the first half expired the visitors held a comfortable 45-21 advantage.
In the second frame PC extended its margin to a game high 46 points with three minutes remaining to cruise to victory. For the game the Lady Lions posted 58 points in the paint and 45 coming off the bench. The women also notched 19 steals and six blocks.
Lauren Anderson led the well-balanced attack with a game best 18 points while
Lisa Jennings also reached double figures with 13. In addition 12 of the 13 Lady Lions recorded points including
Shanice Wheeler who went a perfect 4-4 from the field.
