Lookout Mountain, GA -- For the second time this season the Piedmont College men's basketball team powered past non-conference foe Covenant College, this afternoon by the score of 83-62. The Lions placed three in double figures and drained 27-64 (42%) shots from the floor en route to the road win.
Both teams traded blows early in regulation, but the Lions pulled away in the final six minutes of the first half to carry a 33-25 lead into intermission. Both teams connected on nine shots from the floor but Piedmont held the advantage at the charity stripe converting 13-16 (81%) attempts compared to the home team's 6-10 (60%).
The Lions took full command to open the second frame with a 17-0 run over the course of six minutes. In addition PC's defense held the Scots to a mere four points for the first ten minutes of the second half. Covenant could only cut the deficit to 17 points down the stretch but the Lions again increased the margin to cruise to victory.
Senior #J.C. Herebia# notched a game-high 23 points including 10-12 (83%) from the field. Fellow senior
Michael Rubio added 15 points while
Mike Chatman also reached double figures with 11 points and three assists.
Piedmont, now 4-3 overall, will return home on Tuesday, December 15th as they play host to USA-South opponent Ferrum College at Cave Arena beginning at 4:00.
