Men's Soccer Falls Short In GSAC Finals

The Piedmont College men's soccer team fell this afternoon in the Great South Athletic Conference Tournament championship final match to top-seeded and home-standing Maryville College by the score of 3-0. The Lions allowed a pair of first half goals and could not overcome the margin in the second frame en route to the league's runner-up finish.

The Scots posted the first and eventual game-winning goal just six minutes into regulation. The 1-0 advantage would hold until the 43rd minute when MC added a second goal just before intermission. In the second frame the Lions allowed an insurance goal at the 80th minute to cap the scoring.

After being outshot 11-2 in the first half Piedmont rebounded to outshoot the Scots 11-3 in the second. Sidney Smith posted five shots, three on goal while senior Jorge Pradilla added three. Between the posts Brian Gaid earned eight saves.

PC finishes the 2009 season with an even overall record of 9-9-1.
