Demorest, GA -- The Piedmont College women's soccer team rallied from two goals down to edge local rival Toccoa Falls College this evening at Walker Field by the score of 3-2. With the score tied 2-2 at the end of regulation the Lady Lions found the golden goal just seven minutes into overtime.
The Eagles struck first with a goal at the 14th minute to take the early advantage. After two missed opportunities from the home team, Toccoa Falls increased the margin with a goal at the 25th minute.
The Lady Lions roared back with a goal from
Erin Pippin off a through ball from
Justine Clay at the 34th minute. Clay struck again with the equalizer at the 42nd minute off a pass from
Caitlin Hurd.
Despite the home team out-shooting the opposition 10-1 in the second half, neither team could find the back of the net sending the match into a rain soaked overtime. The Eagles had a break away at the fourth minute but saw their hopes dashed as goaltender
Kaitlyn Induni came out of the box for the game-saving sliding play.
A mere three minutes later, Hurd struck the golden goal off a pass from
Katie Porter beating the keeper to the bottom left corner of the goal and sealing the match for the Lady Lions.
Piedmont, now 11-2 overall, will return to Great South Athletic Conference action on Saturday, October 10th as they travel to Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL for a 3:00 kick off.
