Red-Hot Maryville Downs Men's Basketball Team 101-78

The Piedmont College men's basketball team traveled to Great South Athletic Conference member Maryville College this afternoon and fell to the host Scots by the score of 101-78. MC shot nearly 60% from the field including a remarkable 71% in the second half to roll to the 23-point victory.

After PC led 5-4 three minutes into the game the Scots took the lead for good and went on a 13-4 run over the course of the next four minutes. MC scored the final five points of the first half and took a 16-point lead into intermission. In the second half the Scots connected on a blistering 71% (22-31) of their shots. The Lions ended the game on a 16-9 run but it was too little too late as Maryville coasted to the victory.

A stingy Maryville defense limited Piedmont to a season low 12% from behind the three-point line as the Lions connected on only one three-point basket in each half.

Jake Baldwin continued his impressive season notching a game-high 24 points and seven rebounds. Tyler Whitlock also reached double-figures for PC with 13 points while Michael Rubio and Branden Mayweather chipped in with eight points apiece.

The loss drops PC to 12-11 overall and 2-4 in the Great South Athletic Conferece. The Lions will go ont he road for the final two regular-season games of the year against non-conference opponents Southeastern Bible College and Pensacola Christian College on February 16th and 17th before the GSAC Tournament starting on February 23rd.
