Duncan Leads Lady Lions To League Victory Over Agnes Scott

In a game that featured a school record for the lowest scoring half since Piedmont went NCAA Division-III, the Lady Lions were able to edge visiting Great South Athletic Conference foe Agnes Scott College tonight in Cave Arena by the score of 56-54. Sophomore Kayla Duncan carried the squad with a game-high 27 points, 50% of the teams total points, nine rebounds and a game-high six blocks.

After starting the game on an 8-0 run, the Lady Lions extended their lead to 14-7 before going ice cold and recording zero points for the final seven minutes. The first half came to an end with the score 14-13, a new PC record for lowest first half points scored and lowest combined points.

In the second half the Lady Lions found their stride connecting on 50% of their shots and forcing 11 turnovers. Piedmont lost the lead briefly with seven minutes to go but went on 9-0 run to retake the lead for good. Agnes Scott would not go away quietly and came within two points as the final buzzer sounded.

Nikki Sosebee chipped in for the Lady Lions with a double-double of 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds while Beth Adcock added nine points. Jamenda Whitehead and Whitney Morgan were the leading scorers for ASC with 12 and 10 points respectively.

The victory moves Piedmont to 8-5 overall and more importantly 4-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The women will return to action again on Saturday, January 20th as they travel to conference opponent LaGrange College in LaGrange, GA with tip off set for 2:00.
