Piedmont Pounds Agnes Scott 83-55 To Clinch Second In GSAC

The Piedmont College women's basketball team dismantled visiting Agnes Scott College 83-55 this afternoon in Great South Athletic Conference play in PC's Johnny Mize Athletic Center. The victory clinches sole possession of second place as regular-season league play ends and extends PC's winning streak to six games with 10 victories in the last 11 games.

After a sluggish first half, Piedmont carried a 35-23 advantage into halftime. From there it was all PC as the Lady Lions opened the second frame with a 23-8 run to put the game away.

Without the services of leading scorer Nikki Sosebee and reserve guard Joanna Zipperer due to a stomach virus, the freshman duo of Beth Adcock and Kayla Duncan combined to score 50 points (25 apiece). All of Adcock's points came in the second half as she connected on 5-6 three-point field goals. Duncan rounded out a double-double with 10 rebounds.

Teammates Sheena Trimiar and Stephanie Rainwater added 14 and 12 points respectively.

For the game, Piedmont connected on a season-best 63% (10-16) of their three-point attempts and forced ASC into 29 turnovers.

The victory ends Piedmont's regular-season with a 19-6 overall record and 11-3 mark in conference action. The Lady Lions will be the second seed at this week's Great South Athletic Conference Tournament in Montgomery, AL and will take on seventh-seeded Fisk University at 3:00 CST on Thursday.
