In the semifinals of the 2006 Great South Athletic Conference women's soccer championship, the Piedmont College women's soccer team was defeated by top-seed and tournament host Maryville College this afternoon by the score of 7-0. PC allowed four first-half goals and could never overcome the deficit in the defeat.
Maryville struck quickly with goals at the second and sventhth minute and then tacked on goals less than two minutes apart before intermission. The second half was more of the same as Piedmont allowed three insurance goals in the span of fifteen minutes.
PC could never get it going on offense recording zero shots on goal compared to their opponents 13. The Lady Lions were also shutout in the corner-kick department 16-0.
The women finish their season with an overall record of 8-9-2 while Maryville advances to the championship match where they will face Spelman College who upset second-seeded Agnes Scott College 2-1 in the other semifinal.
