In semifinal action at the 2006 Great South Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, the second-seeded Lions of Piedmont College defeated the third-seeded Hawks of Huntingdon College this evening in Maryville, TN by the score of 5-1. PC dominated the offensive side of the ball scoring five first-half goals and outshooting their opponents 21-4.
Jorge Pradillo notched the first goal for Piedmont at the second minute with the assist credited to senior George Sandi. Drew Griffin then recorded the hat-trick of three goals in the span of 10 minutes to put the game out of reach.
Huntingdon found the back of the net once at the 29th minute but PC responed five minutes before the half with an unassisted insurance goal from Kuno Schaeuble. Between the posts Patrick Ratigan was impressive with only one goal allowed and a pair of saves.
The men will face top-seed and tournament host Maryville College tomorrow at 4:00 in the championship match. The game serves as a rematch from the 2005 GSAC championship match where Maryville defeated Piedmont by the score of 1-0.
