Katie Porter Earns Spot In Record Books Against Wesleyan

Behind a record-setting performance from freshman Katie Porter the Piedmont College women's soccer team routed Great South Athletic Conference host Wesleyan College tonight in Macon, GA by the score of 12-1. Porter notched nine goals making her the Piedmont record holder and second all-time in the NCAA Division-III records for goals in a single match.

Porter's nine goals and 18 points shattered the previous records in school history which stood at six goals and 14 points. The new records pass the previous marks held by Anglea Hallmon (6 goals) and Marcy Grulke (10 points). In the NCAA-III record books her 18 points in a single match ranks tied for second all-time tied with Katie Pope (Benedictine, 2000). Her goals came at the hands of Wesleyan's goalkeeper who finished as the national leader a year ago in saves for NCAA Division-III.

After Wesleyan struck first at the 14th minute it was all PC as the Lady Lions scored 12 unanswered goals. Chipping in was Mary Ann Alexander who notced a pair of goals and assists while Samantha Graham tallied a single goal and assist. In her second match of the season Haley Boyce added a pair of assists while Caitlin Delvasto recorded a single assist.

The victory moves Piedmont to 7-8-2 overall and 6-5-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The women will begin the GSAC tournament on Saturday, October 28th as they host LaGrange College in quarterfinal action at Walker Field beginning at 3:00.
