Red Hot Maryville Runs Past Piedmont 97-76

The Piedmont College men's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped by visiting Maryville College 97-76 in Great South Athletic Conference action in PC's Johnny Mize Athletic Center. The Scots managed to shoot just under 50% from the field including 48% from three-point land as they handed the Lions their first league loss of the season.

The Lions came out of the gate strong jumping to a 24-14 lead midway through the first half. The visitors used a late 10-0 run however to gain a 46-37 advantage at halftime.

Trailing by eight (49-41) in the second half, the Lions saw Maryville stretch its lead for good with a 19-5 run midway through the half to put the game out of reach. The Scots, who were previously ranked in the D3Hooops.com national poll, connected on 7-12 long distance three-pointers in the second half. The Lions continued to battle but could only get within 16 points of the defending champions.

PC's Mike Adams led five Lions in double-figures with a team-high 15 points.

The loss drops Piedmont to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lions will return to the court on Wednesday, January 18th as they travel to GSAC opponent Huntingdon College in Montgomery, AL with tip-off scheduled for 7:00 CST.
