The PC women's soccer team defeated visiting Oglethorpe University in a closely contested match on Walker Field this evening by the score of 2-1. After trailing at halftime 1-0 the Lady Lions rebounded with a pair of second-half goals merely two minutes apart to secure the victory.
Connecting first for Piedmont was Mary Ann Alexander who scored her first collegiate goal with a one-timer on a corner-kick from Haley Boyce at the 53:00 minute mark. Katie Wood (pictured) added the game-winner on another cross from Boyce at the 55:00 minute mark.
Between the posts Michelle Holland tallied a season-high eight saves.
The Lady Lions held the lead for the final forty minutes despite both teams earning nine shots on goal apiece.
Piedmont now stands at 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lady Lions will take the field again on Saturday, Septemer 17th as they host conference opponent Maryville College at Walker Field with kick-off scheduled for 5:30.
