The Piedmont College women's soccer team finished runner-up in the 2005 Great South Athletic Conference tournament today as the Lady Lions fell to Maryville College 5-0 in the title match. Piedmont earned a trip to the championship game by defeating Agnes Scott College 2-1 in the semifinals on Friday afternoon.
In the semifinals, the Lady Lions entered the half knotted at one. Jammie Boyce earned the game-winning goal at the 86:00 mark on an assist from Bergdis Gudnadottir. The goal marked Boyce's first goal of the season.
In the championship game, PC could not withstand the onslaught of Maryville. The eventual champions earned three first-half unanswered goals and then tacked on two insurance goals in the second-half. The Lady Lions were outshot 13-0 in the defeat.
For her efforts Gudnadottir was named to the GSAC 1st team All-Conference squad. Boyce, Ashley Parker, and Katie Wood earned 2nd team honors while Missy Hoffman joined Boyce on the league's All-Freshman team.Â
Addtionally, Michelle Shelton and Haley Boyce joined Wood and Parker as representives on the conference's All-Academic team.
Piedmont now stands at 12-7 overall and will now play in a National Christian College Athletic Association South Regional play-in game versus Emmanuel College on Tuesday, November 8th at PC's Walker Field.
