The Piedmont College women's soccer team fell to visiting Great South Athletic Conference opponent Spelman College tonight on Walker Field 2-1 in double overtime. The Lady Lions were unable to score the game-winner despite outshooting their opponents 17-6.
Before the start of the match PC's four seniors Brooke Bourgeois, Ashley Parker, Michelle Shelton, and Katie Wood were recognized for their four years of service to the women's soccer program.
Spelman struck first at the game's 42:00 mark and took a 1-0 lead into halftime. In the second half, the Lady Lions were able to find the equalizer as Missy Hoffman finished a cross from Wood. After a scoreless first overtime, Spelman struck the game-winner on a breakaway goal at the 106:00 mark.
The loss drops PC to 10-5 overall and 8-4 in the Great South Athletic Conference. The Lady Lions will host the GSAC tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, October 29th as they square-off against LaGrange College with game time scheduled for 3:00.
