Bryan Getty - 2004 Graduate - Men's Tennis (Bio at time of induction)
One of the first commitments that rebuilt the Piedmont tennis program, Bryan Getty not only helped put together the legend that now surrounds Burgen Tennis Courts.  The Tiger, Georgia native helped build the dynasty that became men's tennis at PC as he was a key piece of the first three Great South Athletic Conference Tournament Championships that began a run of seven straight titles in the early 2000's.

Winning more than 50 matches during his time sporting the Green and Gold, Getty was a three-time All-Conference selection in the GSAC taking honors in both singles and doubles play during the 2001, 2002, and 2003 seasons. No men's tennis program other than Piedmont College would win a GSAC tourney title in the first seven years of the league's own existence after being founded in the fall of 2000 with Piedmont as a charter member.

Wasting no time to make a splash when arriving on campus, Getty was named the first-ever GSAC Men's Tennis Player of the Year for his play as just a freshman in the 2001 season.  Then a rising star for the Lions program that grew into greatness, Getty did not drop a single match in the 2001 season in conference play helping Piedmont to claim the league's inaugural crown handed out.

Perhaps the most impressive piece of Piedmont's first title run in that 2001 season came as the squad had to overcome a regular season thorn in the side to earn the championship needing to beat perennial rival Maryville College for the crown.  The Scots had already bested PC twice in their previous two meetings looking to be the clear favorite heading into the GSAC Championship Tournament.

However, the Lions, led by Getty's straight sets win at the #1 singles spot, were able to knock off the tourney favorite Maryville in the GSAC championship game to take the 2001 title.  Getty would help the Lions win two more titles in his time with the program which is responsible for the most GSAC Championship Tournament titles in the school's 12-year affiliation with the league running from 2000 to 2012.  The Lions would claim eight of the 12 titles handed out by the Great South Athletic Conference in men's tennis as one of the league's most dominant dynasties ever seen.

Not only getting it done on the court, Getty was a three-time GSAC All-Academic honoree as well taking the recognition in each season he was eligible as the award demanded sophomore academic standing and a cumulative GPA better than 3.25.  Additionally, his academic performance allowed him to be inducted into the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society in his senior year at PC.

Getty was a straight-A student during his time in Demorest graduating in May of 2004 needing only one course for graduation in his final semester.  A native of Tiger, Georgia, Getty returned to his hometown to teach in the same school system he himself was a product of as he is now the varsity boys and girls tennis coach at Rabun County High School where he teaches Special Education.

Making his home in Tiger, Getty married the former Monica Godwin in 2004.  Monica is also a Piedmont alum graduating with Bryan in 2004.  The two have three children, Jack (born in 2011), Charlotte (born in 2017), and Kathryn (born in 2019).
