Assistant Tennis Coach Jan White

Jan White

Jan White begins her second year as the assistant coach for both the men's and women's tennis programs after an inaugural 2010 campaign that saw a combined six-win improvement from the previous season. White came to Piedmont in August of 2009 after a successful four year playing career at Lebanon Valley College that included a NCAA Division-III National Tournament appearance during her senior season.

This past spring on the courts, White helped mentor the 2010 Great South Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Year who finished the season with an undefeated 5-0 mark in conference play. She was also instrumental in placing a combined four PC tennis players on the GSAC All-Academic team and one female on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Scholar team.

The second year assistant spent her collegiate playing days at Lebanon Valley College in Annville, PA where she tallied a 7-2 record in singles play during her senior season coupled with an impressive 19-3 doubles mark. In that same year, White helped lead the Lady Dutchmen to their first-ever Commonwealth Conference championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division-III National Tournament. The four-year letterman also took home the Athletic Leadership Certificate as a senior at LVC.

In addition to her playing experience, White has been a tennis instructor for Nike Tennis Camps hosted by Gettysburg College. She also has been highly involved in community camps hosted by the Recreation Department of Chambersburg, PA.

In the fall of 2009, White earned her Associate Instructor status through the Professional Tennis Registry which is the largest global organization of tennis teachers and coaches. To obtain her certification, White went through a comprehensive five-part examination focusing on the fundamentals of teaching group lessons, the development of bio-mechanically sound strokes, error detection and corrective techniques, and the logistics of organizing group drills. The written and on-court examination was administered by PTR on teaching and playing skills to determine a certification rating with Coach White earned the Associate Instructor rating.

White is involved in all aspects of both tennis programs at Piedmont and is an active member of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
