Piedmont College Head Men’s Soccer Coach Jimmy Stephens has announced the hiring of Georgia native Daniel Mohsen as the program’s new Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach. Mohsen comes to Piedmont from his last stop as a graduate assistant coach with the men’s soccer program at William Penn University, a NAIA member institution in Iowa.
“I'm excited about the opportunity to work with Daniel," said Head Coach Jimmy Stephens of the new hire. "He brings a lot of energy and ambition, and I believe he will be an asset to our Piedmont family."
"First off I'd like that thank Coach Stephens and Piedmont for the opportunity," said Mohsen. "I am very excited to be taking the next step in my coaching career at a college back in my home state. I cannot wait to get started and look forward to continuing to grow the soccer tradition here at Piedmont."
While with William Penn, Mohsen gained invaluable experience having served as the program’s Interim Head Coach during the spring of 2015 overseeing all facets of the program. Having arrived on the scene in July of 2014, Mohsen spent the last two seasons with the team helping the Statesmen to a combined 15-17-5 overall record including a 3rd place conference finish in 2014.
The Statesmen saw six All-Conference selections during Mohsen’s time with the program and also had one player named to the NSCAA Scholar All-North/Central Region Team in the College Division. Assisting with the recruitment of student-athletes to the program, Mohsen headed up the reserves at William Penn as well helping to build a roster of nearly 60 players.
Prior to beginning his collegiate coaching career, Mohsen enjoyed a decorated playing career with Limestone College, a NCAA Division II member institution located in Gaffney, South Carolina. Mohsen helped the Saints to a Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship in his senior year after the team had already earned a share of the Regular Season Championship that same season.
The Saints defeated top-seeded Erskine to win the 2013 championship moving up to #13 in the nation after the win before finishing the season with a 15-4 record making an appearance in the NCAA National Tournament as the #1 Seed in the Southeast Regional bracket.
The Conference Carolinas titles were the second straight for Limestone as the Saints also took home the crown in 2012 as both the tourney champ and co-champs in the regular season. Overall, Mohsen appeared in 37 games for the Saints accounting for a pair of assists and four goals with all of those scores coming in his sophomore year with the club.
