Jake Milrod joined the men's lacrosse coaching staff at Piedmont for the program's inaugural season in 2012 after serving as a starting defenseman at NCAA Division II Pfeiffer University. Milrod joined the Piedmont ranks after completing his four-year playing career for the Falcons.
“Jake brings a lot of experience with him that will help provide a mentor for the goalies here at Piedmont as well as the defense,” said Manderano of his recent staff addition. “His knowledge of the game will help give us a balanced defense that will include strong goalie play. Jake is also familiar with the small college atmosphere which will help us in recruiting especially given his ties in the Northern Virginia area expanding our current recruiting base.”
As a key piece of the men’s lacrosse team at Pfeiffer from the 2006 to the 2009 season, Milrod adds a different look to an already solid coaching staff ready to make their mark at Piedmont College. The Virginia native saw action in 35 games over his sophomore, junior, and senior years with the Falcons playing in all but one game over his final three seasons with the club. During those campaigns, Milrod saw the bulk of his work as a defensemen picking up 66 ground balls for the squad while winning three of his seven face offs taken in 2009.
As a young defensemen on the squad, Jake helped the 2006 team set a then-program record of 529 ground balls besting the old mark set two seasons prior. Starting 12 games as a senior for the Falcons, Milrod was the team’s captain for the 2009 season helping guide the squad to a winning 7-5 record on the year representing the fourth highest season win total in the more than 20 year history of the program.
In addition to four years of collegiate playing expertise at a NCAA institution, Milrod also brings both head coaching and assistant coaching experience with him to Demorest to help get the new men’s lacrosse squad on their feet. Jake served as the Assistant Coach and Defensive Coordinator with the U-18 Chadstone Redbacks Lacrosse Club out of Melbourne, Australia putting together all of the team’s defensive schemes and slide packages.
Also responsible for training goalies and handling the defensive side of the ball during games for the U-18 squad, Jake additionally received head coaching experience leading the U-12 program at the same Australia club leading the squad to an undefeated record while also conducting daily practices and implementing new styles of team play.
“I’m very excited about the opportunity to help build the men’s lacrosse tradition here at Piedmont College,” said Milrod. “I want to thank Coach Manderano for adding me to the staff at PC, and I look forward to our first lacrosse season and the future we have heading into the USA South Athletic Conference.”
A recent graduate of Pfeiffer University, Jake earned his Bachelor of Art in History from the North Carolina school in May of 2011. Milrod plans to pursue his Master of Business Administration from the graduate school at Piedmont College.
