Jack O'Brien

Jack O'Brien joined the Piedmont College men's lacrosse program as a Graduate Assistant Coach in the fall of 2016 working under Head Coach Tim Dunton. O'Brien spent his playing days at Regis College where he was an All-Conference performer who received national recognition for his work on the face-off ranking in the top 10 in NCAA Division III in that category all four seasons.

O’Brien joined Coach Dunton who came to Piedmont prior to the 2016 season following a 13-year career as the Head Coach at Lasell College in the Northeast.  Dunton led Piedmont during just the program’s sixth year of existence during the 2017 campaign as the Lions enter year three under their new Head Coach this coming spring.

O’Brien was a four-year member of the men’s lacrosse team for the Pride at Regis where he helped lead the program from a 4-11 record his freshman year to an ECAC playoff appearance the following season.  Wrapping up his career this past spring, O’Brien’s time at Regis came full circle with the 2016 team posting a 13-4 record on the way to an NECC championship with a 10-6 win over Becker in the title game.

Saving some of his best for last, O’Brien scored a go-ahead goal in the 3rd quarter of that NECC Championship win vs. Becker and also accounted for a game-high 7 ground balls with Regis collecting 21 as a team.   O’Brien was an All-Conference 1st Team selection in the NECC all four years and also earned 2nd Team All-Pilgrim League honors his freshman year as well, the only player from Regis to make that claim in 2013 as Regis was dually affiliated in ’13 with the NECC and the Pilgrim League.

Spending his collegiate playing days in the midfield, O’Brien started in 54 of the 61 games he played for the Pride scoring 28 goals and notching six assists to go with nearly 400 ground balls in his career.  However, it was on the face-off that O’Brien made a name for himself in the Northeast and across the nation from the very start of his college career as he ranked amongst the best in Division III in that category throughout his time on campus in Massachusetts.

O’Brien remarkably ranked in the nation’s top 15 in Division III in face-off winning percentage all four years he suited up and was the #1 freshman in the country in the category during his debut season of 2013.  Named the New England Journal Player to Watch following the ’13 season, O’Brien lived up to the hype ranking as the #1 sophomore in face-off winning percentage.

As just the second player in Regis history to play in the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Senior All-Star Game, O’Brien comes from a Division III family with his father having played football at Tufts University.  Before his time at Regis, O’Brien also helped his high school hockey team to a Massachusetts State Championship Game playing in Boston’s TD Garden.

His stop at Piedmont will not be his first coaching experience as O’Brien spent time with Milton Youth Lacrosse while also working multiple camps and clinics along the way including a few with his former college coach.

Earning his undergraduate degree from Regis in 2016 as a double-major in Business Management and Law and Government, O’Brien took Dean’s List honors from 2013 to 2015 for his work in the classroom as well.

As a Graduate Assistant Coach for the men’s lacrosse team at PC, O’Brien will assist Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Tim Dunton in all facets of the program while pursuing his Master of Business Administration from the graduate school at Piedmont.
