David Salter will enter his second season at Piedmont in the fall of 2019.

2019 saw much success for the Lions as Piedmont took the USA South Tournament Championship and made a trip to the NCAA tournament. On the defensive side of the ball, Salter's group produced program records.

His unit helped with program record for ground balls / per game (646 / 35.89) and caused turnovers / per game (175 / 9.72).

Salter joined the Piedmont staff after spending  two years at Mercyhurst North East University. While at Mercyhurst, Salter led the recruiting efforts for the Saints as well as coaching the defensive unit. Salter helped the Saints improve from a 0-12 season in their debut season in 2017 to a 7-7 record in 2018. The Saints opened their sophomore season with an 18-4 win over Catonsville and posted a 4-3 record after the first seven games.

While acting as the recruiting and defensive coordinator, Salter also assisted his head coach with the practice planning, study hall and tracked the student-athlete’s academic progress. Salter’s efforts were seen on the field as his defensive unit went from a 17.58 goals against average in 2017 to a 10.21 average the following season.

During his two seasons, Salter coached seven All-Conference selections, three defensemen All-Region honorees and one first-team All-Region defenseman.

Salter also had success on the recruiting trail and recruited student-athletes from Maryland, Massachusetts, Ohio, New York and Wisconsin to join the Pennsylvania junior college.

Prior to coaching, Salter played three seasons at Belmont Abbey where he was a captain as a junior and senior for the Crusaders. During his time in Belmont, N.C., Salter finished with three goals, four assists, 87 ground balls and 23 caused turnovers as a defensive midfielder. Prior to Belmont, Salter played one season for Howard Community College.

Salter is a member of the Latvian National Lacrosse Team and has competed in the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Games in 2014 and 2018 and also competed in the FIL European Championships in 2016.

Salter graduated from Belmont Abbey in 2016 with a degree in business management and received his Masters of Science degree in organizational leadership from Mercyhurst University in May of 2018.
