JC Cavin returned to Piedmont as Head Men's Basketball Coach prior to the 2025-26 after only a year away from the sidelines at Cave Arena having served as the program's top assistant coach from 2020-24.

Cavin made it clear his roots to the program saying this upon his hire:  "I am humbled and honored to be named the head coach at Piedmont University and excited to come back to such a great institution.  I want to thank Coach Peeples and President Criser for their belief in me to lead this program. Greg Neeley, Barclay Radebaugh, Dan Evans, and so many others have poured into me and molded me into the man and coach I am today."

Cavin spent four seasons patrolling Cave Arena as former Head Coach Greg Neeley's top assistant for the program prior to his return as the Head Coach for the Lions upon Neeley's departure from the lead role.

~ Gaining Knowledge from the Nighthawks ~

After spending four years on the sidelines as an assistant coach at Piedmont, Cavin took his talents to Dahlonega serving as an assistant coach at staff with the men's basketball program at the University of North Georgia.

Working with the team in the 2024-2025 season, Cavin gained invaluable knowledge working with the NCAA Division II program located a short drive from the Demorest area.

During his time with the Nighthawks, the team went 18-14 with a .500 record in league play within the Peach Belt Conference. The team advanced to the PBC semifinals and had junior guard AJ White named to the second team all-conference listing.

~ Putting the Final Chapter in the Book ~

Cavin played out his final season of collegiate eligibility with Charles Southern before joining the staff upon his completion of his collegiate career.

The son of a coach himself, Cavin oversaw all film duties while at Charleston Southern and assisted in recruiting efforts for the Buccaneers as well.

In his role with the team, Cavin also was responsible for creating scouting reports, producing graphics and videos for social media and overseeing the team's social media accounts.

The Buccaneers finished the 2018-19 season with an 18-16 mark overall and a semifinal appearance in the Big South Tournament as well as a CIT berth where they claimed the program's first postseason win.

The team also made a Big South Tournament Quarterfinals appearance in 2019-20.

~ An Early Start to a Long Coaching Career ~

Cavin spent his collegiate playing days repping the Rams logo of Columbia International University.  It was there that Cavin averaged over 13 points per game while posting 16 double-figure scoring outings, including a career-high 34 points late in his final season against Morris College.

Ending his time at CIU amongst the program's all-time leaders in scoring, assists, rebounds and steals while also competing with the track team at CIU as well.
