WHAT'S UP NEXT:
- The Lions stay at home this weekend with a tri-match of action as a local rival and a conference foe come to town with nearby Toccoa Falls coming to play along with CCS member Asbury University. The tri-match will start at 12 pm in Cave Arena on Saturday with complete schedules available at PiedmontLions.com.
TURNING POINT:
- Brevard was looking to force the issue late in the 5th set turning a Piedmont 14-9 advantage into a two-point contest with three straight points but the Lions stood tall as Alexandrea Dorman put down her 13th and final kill of the match to seal the Tornados' fate.
- Trailing by a point early in the 3rd, Oglethorpe's setter dumped a ball over the net to tie it up at 4-4 before Piedmont's Hannah Haskins matched the tricky move in the next rally for a home team point that spurred a 3-point run allowing Piedmont stay in front the rest of the way.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- 2nd-year Head Coach Kat Tatum is now 2-0 in home openers with both coming on a promotional Family Night as each family of a Piedmont volleyball player was recognized in Cave Arena for supporting their Lions.
- Last year's home opener came over Wesleyan College but did not come until August 1 as Piedmont did not play a home game in September of 2025.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- The three-headed attack of Lillian Gaskins, Sydney Speer, and Dorman who combined for 40 of Piedmont's 54 kills in the Brevard 5-set win.
- Rylee Vessell was key to the Brevard victory with 23 digs to lead all players in the match in that category.
- Gaskins put down another dozen kills in the OU win while Vessell picked up another 11 digs.
