NEED TO KNOW:

Game 2 Score: Piedmont 1, Belhaven 7
Records: Piedmont, 20-12 (7-5); Belhaven, 27-2 (10-0)

JACKSON, MISS. - Piedmont softball fell to tough competition in the Belhaven Blazers on Saturday.

The Lions were unable to keep up with the pace of the strong Blazer bats as they fell in both contests.

Game 1 Score: Belhaven 8, Piedmont 2

The Blazers leapt out to a 4-0 lead after a strong second inning, and while the Lions answered in the top of the third with an Elli Lenz two-RBI double, Belhaven kept the Piedmont offense quiet for the remainder of the contest.

Piedmont looked to hold the Belhaven lead at two, but the bats for its CCS opponent continued swinging a hot stick and scored in the third, fourth and fifth, pushing the lead to 8-2.

The Lions failed to rally in the final innings and fell in game one by an 8-2 final score.

Game 2 Score: Belhaven 7, Piedmont 1

Belhaven struck first yet again in game two with a two-run third.

Anslee Saunchegraw answered in the top of the third with her ninth home run of the season, cutting the lead in half at 2-1.

The Blazers brought home another run in the third before breaking the game open in the fourth with a four-run frame.

The Piedmont offense struggled against the strong Blazers pitching staff and ultimately fell in game two 7-1.

Up next, the Lions welcome in the Berry College Vikings for a midweek home contest on April 15, with game one set for 1 p.m.
