Dominant Pitching Leads the Lions to 7-1 Win over Covenant

DEMOREST, Ga. - The Lions secured another CCS victory on Friday evening behind a strong outing from Andrew Misirly and timely hitting from the offense.

Piedmont's lineup continued to shine, scoring once again in the first inning after leadoff man Cody Funk came around to score off a ground ball to the Covenant second baseman that turned into an error, putting Cole Ellis on first. Piedmont stranded a pair in the inning but came away with the lead.

The sophomore Misirly took the ball for the Lions and shut down the Covenant lineup in the second, giving a scoreless frame back to the offense.

Davin Miller led off the inning with a single and scored on a Ben Bodoh double to right-center field. Bodoh advanced to third on a fly ball from Funk and scored on an errant throw by the right fielder. 

Now carrying a three-run lead, Misirly went back to work and dealt against the Scots. The right-hander provided a commanding performance, going seven strong while allowing six baserunners and one run. 

The Lions put a crooked number on the board in the seventh, scoring four, as Justin Shaffer lead off the inning with a single and promptly crossing home on a Funk double.

Averett Thompson followed Misirly and finished out the game with two scoreless frames, securing a Lions victory.

Piedmont's offense alleviated pressure from the pitching staff while allowing just one run.

Next, the Lions get set for doubleheader action tomorrow, April 11, with game one set for 2 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Misirly established himself early, keeping the Scots off balance.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Ellis brought home two runs while coming around to score in the Lions' big seventh inning.
