DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont women's tennis rolled to a CCS home win for the second straight day, racing past Covenant by a 6-1 margin on a beautiful Saturday in Demorest.
The Lions were dominant across the three doubles matches, winning all in decisive fashion. When the match turned to singles, it was more of the same, as they won 5-of-6 matches, all in straight sets.
Piedmont began the day with a clinical performance in doubles, with none of the three teams losing more than two games. The No. 3 team of
Sarah Row and
Brooklyn Bolch were first to clinch, winning 6-1.
Then, it was the sophomore duo of
Caroline Morrison and
Sarah Sanabia who ensured the 1-0 lead, winning 6-2 at No. 2. Completing the sweep, the No. 1 team of freshman
Kaleigh Stallworth and
Ella Kate Canaday delivered an impressive 6-2 win of their own at No. 1 to send the Lions into singles on a high note.
One day after she was honored for Senior Day,
Jordan Ballard took her play up a notch, rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 to make it 2-0 Lions.
Olivia Carpenter was next to clinch, closing out a 6-0, 6-2 triumph at No. 6, just moments before Canaday put the win on the board with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2.
From there, the Lions took two of the remaining three matches, as
Hattie Sloyan finished next with 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4, followed by Morrison, who won 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3.
While The Scots picked up a line to avoid the shutout at No. 1, the damage was done and Piedmont continued its undefeated run in the CCS, moving to 3-0.
Up next, the Lions will step out of conference and travel to North Carolina to take on JWU on Tuesday, March 31 at 2:30 p.m.
