DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont women's tennis picked up a pair of 7-0 sweeps in split squad action Tuesday afternoon.
One group of Lions traveled to North Carolina, rolling past JWU 7-0 in Charlotte while another group stayed home and added to the conference win total, cruising to a 7-0 shutout of Agnes Scott.
Match 1: Piedmont 7, JWU 0
In the match against JWU, the Lions brought their A game to doubles, losing just four total games across the three matches.
Sarah Row and
Annalia Small clinched first, winning 6-1 at No. 2 before the No. 3 team of
Drea Robinson and
Addyson Willis secured the first point of the match with a 6-1 win of their own at No. 3. For good measure, the Lions saw their No. 1 team of
Sarah Sanabia and
Hattie Sloyan win, 6-2.
Singles brought more Piedmont dominant, winning all six lines in straight sets and winning three matches in 6-0, 6-0 fashion.
The three Lions who finished their matches, including the clinch, did not drop a single game.
Olivia Carpenter won first at No. 3, before Row also did not drop a game in a win at No. 4. It was Sanabia who delivered the match-clinching 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2.
Playing out the remaining three matches, Piedmont continued to pour it on.
Mackenzie Long (6-4, 6-1) won in straight sets at No. 6 while
Emily Gonzalez battled through a second set tiebreak (6-3, 7-6 (4)) to make it 6-0.Â
In securing the shutout, Sloyan was forced to work at the top singles spot, but prevailed, 6-4, 7-5 to close out the match.
Match 2: Piedmont 7, Agnes Scott 0
The group of Lions that stayed home also delivered an efficient and clinical performance in a quick win over the Scotties.
The three doubles lines combined to lose just one game. Both the No. 3 team of
Halee Harper and
Jordan Ballard and the No. 2 team of
Brooklyn Bolch and
Caroline Morrison each won 6-0 with the No. 2 team clinching the point. The freshman duo of
Kaleigh Stallworth and back-to-back CCS Rookie of the Week
Ella Kate Canaday won 6-1 at No. 1 to keep the momentum heading to singles.
Singles action saw more Piedmont domination, winning three more 6-0, 6-0 matches to secure the clinch. Morrison won first at No. 4, followed by Harper at No. 6. However, it was Canaday who won the race to the clinch for the second straight match, winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2, the same score line by which she won on Saturday against Covenant.
Stallworth joined the perfect group with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 while Bolch (6-0, 6-1)Â and Ballard (6-2, 6-0) also turned in dominant performances.
Up next, the Lions will host LaGrange next Tuesday, April 7 at 10:30 a.m. in the team's final scheduled home match of the season.
