DECATUR, Ga.. - Piedmont softball stayed undefeated in conference play with a doubleheader sweep of Agnes Scott on Tuesday.
Game 1: Piedmont 14, Agnes Scott 0 F/5
Piedmont put the game out of reach in the first inning with 10 runs in the first frame. Anslee Saunchegraw opened the scoring with a two-RBI single, giving the Lions the early lead. Piedmont opened the floodgates and batted around in the inning. Saunchegraw picked up three RBIs in the inning, giving Jacy Vickery a healthy lead going into the bottom of the first.
Vickery was exceptional in the circle for the Lions, throwing five shutout innings while scattering just five hits against the Scotties.
The lineup brought home four more runs across the following frames as Vickery locked down a five-inning shutout win for the Lions.
Game 2: Piedmont 12, Agnes Scott 2
The Lions bats once again led the way for the squad, scoring two runs in the first inning off a Valerie Bailey two-RBI double.
Jalyn McGee got the start in the circle and twirled three shutout frames for the Lions, entering the fourth inning.
The Lions' bats started strong in the fourth with a Madison Hawkins leadoff single. With the bases loaded and the top of the order due up, Maddi Spieks drove a ball to the gap, clearing the bases and opening the game up for the Lions. Piedmont brought home three more in the inning, giving them an 8-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth.
Despite getting the first two outs of the inning with minimal trouble, McGee ran into two-out traffic against the Scotties, as Agnes Scott brought home two in the inning.
Piedmont stayed quiet in the fifth while McGee dealt, opening the door for a big sixth inning.
Anslee Saunchegraw opened the inning with a leadoff home run. Piedmont's production stayed hot as they put runners on for Kaylee Taylor, who doubled home a pair, giving the Lions a 12-2 lead heading to the bottom of the sixth.
McGee threw a no-hitter sixth, keeping Agnes Scott off the board and giving the Lions the sweep.
Next up, Piedmont will return home to Demorest to face off against the Huntingdon Hawks on Friday at 11 a.m.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Maddi Spieks went 6-8 on the day with four runs scored.
- Anslee Saunchegraw had another great day at the plate, going 6-8 with four RBIs, including a home run on the day.
- Jalyn McGee turned in a strong performance for the Lions in her first start of the season.
