MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Piedmont men's tennis won its second match in a row since returning from Orlando, rolling to a 7-0 sweep at Huntingdon on Friday afternoon in Montgomery, Alabama.

The Lions move to 1-0 in Collegiate Conference of the South play with the victory.

Doubles action set the tone for the rest of the match, with consistent play across the board from the three doubles teams. All three won by the exact same 6-3 margin. The No. 3 team of Caleb McElveen and Horacio Rodriguez clinched their 6-3 victory first.

Then, with No. 1 and No. 2 doubles each looking for the clinch, the race was won by Charles Parnell and Rohan Kavali at No. 2, just before Leyton Dunn and Mark Backeberg also prevailed at No. 1 for good measure.

With four singles matches going on court to begin, the Lions continued to dominate, sweeping all six lines in straight sets to quickly clinch the win.

Kavali picked up the first win at No. 3 to make it 2-0 (6-2, 6-0) shortly before Parnell delivered a clinical 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 4.

Needing one more match for the clinch, reigning CCS Player of the Week Mark Backeberg put the win in the bank with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 2.

Although the outcome was decided, the Lions continued to pour it on. Dunn cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the top spot while the bottom of the lineup put the exclamation point on the match, as Rodriguez (6-2, 6-4) and McElveen (6-0, 6-3) ensured the conference opening sweep.

Up next, the Lions will step back out of conference and host Berry next Tuesday, March 24 at 3 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont set the tone with a trio of 6-3 wins in doubles.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- The Lions were solid across the board, not dropping a single set across the six singles lines.
