Tamarkin Scores Seven Goals as Men's Lacrosse Rolls to 23-2 Win at Oglethorpe

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Piedmont 23, Oglethorpe 2
Records: Piedmont, 3-6; Oglethorpe, 2-7

BROOKHAVEN, Ga. - Josh Tamarkin scored seven goals against his former team as Piedmont men's lacrosse cruised to a 23-2 win over Oglethorpe on the road Wednesday night in Brookhaven.

Tamarkin and the Lions scored early and often, racing out to a 7-0 lead before the Stormy Petrels found a goal. Piedmont continued to pour it on in the second quarter, adding six more to lead 13-1 at the break.

In the end, it marked the Lions third consecutive victory by double digits, with two of them being on the road.

For Tamarkin, his seven goals marked the most scored by a Lion in a game since Spencer Ortis scored 11 in 2012, also against Oglethorpe.

Overall, four Lions recorded hat tricks, with Zach Avila adding a season-best four goals, while newcomers Evan Bingham and Grady Eyler scored three apiece.

Tamarkin was joined by freshman Tate Claudio and junior Noah McGriff in leading the team with two assists.

On the defensive end, Max Peek led the way with four caused turnovers for the second straight game, while Austin Sprout added three and Micah James and Ian Kuysten caused two apiece.

Piedmont's stifling defense did not allow many shots on goal. However, four different Lions saw time at goalie, with Jack Eisele recording a pair of saves to lead the four goalies.

Up next, the Lions will return home for their final non-conference game of the season, hosting Hendrix next Thursday, March 26 at 5 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- The Lions blitzed the Stormy Petrels out of the gate, scoring seven times before Oglethorpe found a goal.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Tamarkin easily raced past his season high in goals, scoring seven on the night while adding two assists, marking the most goals scored by a Lion since 2012.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:

- The Lions stifled the Oglethrope offense before it got started, holding the Stormy Petrels to just 11-of-29 on clear attempts.
