MARYVILLE, Tenn.Andrew Misirly pitched seven shutout innings and the Piedmont Lions defeated Maryville 5-0 Friday night.

The night was headlined by Andrew Misirly, who pitched seven shutout innings for the Lions, with six strikeouts while allowing two walks.

Piedmont started the scoring in the third inning when Cole Ellis singled, and a Maryville error allowed Cody Funk to score. Cruz Mullinix stepped up next and lined a single to left field, bringing Ellis home and giving the Lions a 2-0 lead.

Misirly headed back to work in the bottom of the inning and made quick work of the Scots lineup with a double play and another groundout.

With another zero on the board, the Piedmont offense got back to work. Ben Bodoh doubled to lead off the inning. The Lions played station-to-station ball, scoring their runs via sacrifice flies and singles. Carter Few brought home the final run of the inning, building the Lions' lead to 5-0.

Averett Thompson followed Misirly out of the bullpen, and the junior went two innings of shutdown ball, allowing just one baserunner.

Piedmont opened CCS play with a win on the back of their pitching, which it will need as it heads deeper into the schedule. The offense got the job done even without their usual slugging ways.
