JACKSON, Miss. - Piedmont women's basketball concluded its marathon road trip with a 66-47 loss against Belhaven Sunday afternoon in Jackson, Mississippi.
iThe Lions raced out to a strong start, but playing their third conference road game in three days, were unable to keep the momentum as the Blazers caught up and then pulled away late.
Gracie Deetz was the lone Lion in double figures, coming off the bench to score 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting in just 17 minutes of action.
Alexandria Willis just missed out on a double double on back-to-back days, finishing with nine points and nine rebounds.
The first quarter was back and forth, but the Lions closed it strong, using a 6-0 run to lead 20-17 after the first 10 minutes.
From there, it was all Belhaven, which closed the first half on a 9-0 run to take a 35-27 advantage to the locker room.
Neither side was able to find much offense in the third quarter as the Blazers headed to the final quarter ahead by 12 points and only extended their lead, shutting down Piedmont's offense again in the final minutes.
Up next, Piedmont will return home and host Covenant this Wednesday, Feb. 11 at 5 p.m.
TURNING POINT:
- Belhaven used a 9-0 run in the second quarter to flip the game and kept the lead the rest of the way.
STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Piedmont received 24 points from its bench, led by 12 points from Deetz and nine points from
Ava Hunter.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Piedmont held a 41-31 edge in total rebounds for the game.
