Louisville, Ky. - Piedmont men's and women's track & field resumed its indoor season after multiple cancellations due to weather, taking part in the Eastern Indoors Collegiate meet in Louisville, Kentucky on Friday against all Division I and JUCO institutions.
The day saw several school records broken and many top 10 finishes with new personal records.
Silas Goolsby had an outstanding day for Lions, breaking not only the 400m and 200m indoor records, but also claiming a top 50 spot in Division III indoor. His new records now put him at number 19 in the 200m (21.74) and number 43 in the 400m (49.21) for indoor.
Also breaking school records for the Lions were
Bella Caccamo and
George Ketch. Caccamo competed in the 1K and finished 5th overall with a time of 3:12.73. Ketch competed in weight throw finishing 2nd overall with a mark of 14.91m.
On the track side, multiple runners set new personal bests including
Michelle Cates in the 60m hurdles (9.75) and the 400m (1:02.94). Cates is rolling through this season, setting new personal bests at the last two meets.
Madison Worsham came back with the mile beating her last race by 12 seconds (6:11.30) while
Allison Cantrell set a new personal best in the 60m (8.30).
Newcomer
Tyler Brown, is making strides as well, setting a new personal best these last two meets and looking to keep improving in his 200m.
Xander Wiley made his debut again in the 800m this season setting a new personal best for himself (2:22.33).
On the field side, multiple throwers had plenty of top 10 performances including
Matthew Blocksom who placed fifth (13.78m) in the weight throw.
All four jumpers who competed in long jump hit top 10 with
Al Martin leading the Lions in sixth place (6.32m), followed by
Bryant Murray in eighth (6.26m),
Franklin Brown Jr. ninth (6.14m) and
Jimmy Channell 10th (5.41m).
Junior,
Kayla Ward led the Lions in shot put placing sixth with a mark of 10.55m, while
Shealee Gallegos led in weight throw placing ninth with a mark of 11.21m.
Up next, the Lions will be heading to Tryon, North Carolina for the Tryon Mid Winter Classic on February 13-14.
