Lions Run Away from Wesleyan for 67-43 Home Win

DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont women's basketball continued its stretch of dominance, running away from Wesleyan for a 67-43 win on Tuesday night inside Cave Arena.

After a slow offensive start, the Lions took control in the second quarter with 23 points and kept control of the game the rest of the way, leading by double digits for the entirety of the second half.

It was a a balanced scoring attack from the Lions, who were led by freshmen Kylie Watkins and Lily Conkell offensively. Watkins led the way with 15 points and tied for the team lead with six rebounds and four assists. Conkell continued her strong play, scoring 11 points to go with six assists, three rebounds and three steals.

As a team, the Lions were rock solid from the free throw line, connecting on 14-of-16 from the stripe.

While the Wolves led 7-2 in the early going, Piedmont immediately responded with an 11-3 run to end the first quarter and lead 13-10 going into the second.

The second quarter proved to be the difference, with the Lions separating themselves with a 10-0 run to end the first half.

Piedmont removed all doubt coming out of the locker room, with an 11-2 run to push its lead to 25 points.

The Lions led by as many as 30 points in the fourth quarter, while freshman Addison Rouse put the exclamation mark on the win, getting in the scoring column late in the victory.

Up next, the Lions will wrap up the regular season, hosting Maryville this Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. Piedmont will honor its seniors at the conclusion of the contest.

TURNING POINT:
- Piedmont used a 23-10 run in the second quarter to separate from the Wolves.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Watkins and Conkell were the only two Lions in double figures, scoring 15 and 11 points, respectively.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- The Lions forced 32 Wesleyan turnovers and scored 28 points off those turnovers.
