DEMOREST, GA—The Piedmont baseball team erupted in their season opener against the Rhodes Lynx with a mercy rule 14-4 victory.
The offense was the star of the day as the Lions scored in all but one of the seven innings played in the contest.
Cole Ellis would continue to hold the moniker of table setter as he became the first base runner for the Lions and came around to score the game's first run. Piedmont never let off the gas as they put together a five-run inning in the first with the lineup batting all the way around. The scoring wouldn't cease for Piedmont as they throttled the Lynx over the remaining innings, with a second big inning coming in the fifth with three runs on the board.
Ben Bodoh led the charge for the Lions, going 3-4 with a team-leading five RBI, with him reaching on an error in the seventh inning leading to a mercy rule walkoff. Several other Lions put together solid days, with
Cruz Mullinix and
Matt Dupuis both earning two RBI.
Layne Ayers started the game and went 2.1 innings strong with two strikeouts while giving up just one run. The other pitching standout of the day was junior
Averett Thompson. Thompson went 3.2 innings for the Lions while allowing no runs and striking out a pair.
Piedmont's offense looked good coming into the season and reinforced that strength in their first outing of 2026.
