Lions Fall Short in Road Loss to Covenant 94-80

NEED TO KNOW:
Score: Covenant 94, Piedmont 80
Records: Piedmont, 8-8 (0-4); Covenant, 5-11 (2-3)

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, GA— The Piedmont men's basketball team battled hard but ultimately fell to the Covenant Scots on Saturday evening by a final score of 94-80.

It was a hard-fought contest for the greater part of the game, as it was a team effort in the first half and the beginning of the second, but Piedmont would run out of gas with 10 minutes left, leaving Covenant to run away with a victory.

Fisher Darden and Israel Hall led the Lions on the court as they both put up 16 points, with Hall finishing with nine rebounds. Caleb Lesch also had a solid showing with 13 points on the board.

Both squads went shot-for-shot with one another throughout the first 10 minutes of the second half until a short burst for the Scots put them up 64-56. The momentum would swing in the Scots' favor from this point on as the Lions did rally scores, but their greatest foe in the second half was the clock.

Piedmont received great help from their bench with Grady Robertson and Lesch turning in solid performances. Overall the Lions put up 25 points from their bench pieces, flexing their depth.

The Lions saw promising performances in the contest, but consistent fouls and lack of defensive stops stood in the way of the win.

Piedmont will stay on the road with a game against Toccoa Falls on Jan. 20th at 6:00 p.m.

TURNING POINT:
- An 18-11 Covenant rally with 10 minutes left that separated them from Piedmont.

STANDOUT PERFORMANCES:
- Fisher Darden posted 16 points while landing five three pointers.
- Israel Hall nearly finished with a double-double as the junior put up 16 points with nine rebounds.
