MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Piedmont volleyball opened play at the Huntingdon Invitational with two matches on Friday afternoon and evening in Montgomery, Alabama.
Match 1: Huntingdon 3, Piedmont 1
The Lions were able to take a set off its CCS foe Huntingdon in the opening match of the day. However, in the non-conference contest, the Hawks were able to prevail by rebounding to win the fourth set after Piedmont took the third.
Katie Hubbard had an outstanding game for the Lions, registering a season-best 13 kills with a .333 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Bailey Daughtery also delivered a season high, recording nine kills and a solid .250 hitting percentage.
Reigning CCS Defensive Player of the Week
Zoe Coelho delivered 21 digs to lead the team.
Freshman
Lauren Caricato (15) and
Erin Lemons (17) combined for 32 set assists for the match.
Match 2: St. Thomas 3, Piedmont 0
In the final match of the day, the Lions were unable to contain St. Thomas, falling in three sets.
Piedmont fell 25-14, 25-17 and 25-7 to the still unbeaten Celts, who improved to 6-0.
Bree Chappell led Piedmont with four kills in the match.
Coelho had another solid defensive match, recording 10 digs.
Up next, the Lions are back in action Saturday to conclude their Huntingdon Invitational play, taking on Millsaps first before battling LaGrange in another non-conference matchup in the finale.
