DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont women's tennis completed a successful hosting of the Piedmont Invitational on Friday and Saturday, while celebrating
Amanda Barrett's Senior Day to close out the weekend.
Overall, the Lions enjoyed a stellar weekend of play, winning 19 singles matches and eight doubles matches.
15 different Lions picked up a singles victory while the eight doubles wins were from eight different pairings.
Friday morning's singles play started off strong as junior
Brooklyn Bolch put away a 6-3, 6-3 win over Katie Stanfield from Truett McConnell. Then, also in the morning, it was Barrett's turn to shine, as she prevailed 6-1, 6-3 over an opponent from Truett McConnell as well.
In afternoon doubles competition, the Lions prevailed in a pair of hard-fought matches against Division II Mars Hill. First, it was Bolch and freshman
Ella Kate Canaday winning 6-4, before
Halee Harper and
Sarah Sanabia outlasted their opponents in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5).
Saturday saw a number rof Lions play lengthy matches that ended in third set math tiebreakers. However, Harper did not need a breaker to prevail 7-5, 6-1 and go 2-0 in singles for the weekend.
Sanabia also finished with a perfect singles record for the wekeend, winning a grueling match, 5-7, 7-6 (6), 10-4 over an opponent from Mars Hill.
Sophomore
Emily Gonzalez and freshman
Annalia Small also produced perfect 2-0 singles records in the tournament.
Finally, doubles play was capped off by Barrett pairing with
Jordan Ballard to win 6-4 over a duo from Brenau.
Up next, the Lions will head to North Carolina this weekend to take part in the Methodist Invitational, beginning Friday, Sept. 19 in Fayetteville, North Carolina.
