DEMOREST, Ga. - Piedmont men's soccer continued its outstanding work at home, earning an impressive 3-1 victory over Methodist on Saturday afternoon in Demorest.
Leading goal scorer
Davis Knight was a key part of the offensive attack once again, scoring Piedmont's first goal and assisting on the game-clinching final goal late in the second half. Freshman
Edwin Sosa-Reyes put away his first career goal late to ice the contest in Piedmont's favor.
Although Methodist controlled possession in the early going, a big save from
Bobby Wood kept the Monarchs off the scoreboard.
Piedmont then took advantage of a back line error as Knight was able to come away with a turnover and dribble the ball into an open net to make it 1-0 in the 18th minute.
The score remained 1-0 into the second half, when the Lions' offensive pressure forced another back line mistake and resulted in an own goal to make it 2-0 Piedmont.
Under 10 minutes later, the Monarchs cracked the scoreboard, taking advantage of a penalty kick opportunity to make it 2-1 Lions with much of the second half remaining.
However, from that point forward, the Lions were rock solid, holding Methodist scoreless and then putting the game away as Knight found open space and delivered a perfectly timed cross to Sosa-Reyes, who put away his first career goal to make it a 3-1 game and all but ensure a Lions victory.
